सागरतीरावर

Saagarteeravar-text

Poem recited by Aditya Sathe

Phonetics in Roman Script

Phēsaḷatyā sāgaratīrāvara tū ana mī dōghēcha āpaṇa,
sūrya astālā gēlyāvara,
hātāta hāta ghē'ūna khāndyāvara ḍōkaṁ ṭēkavūna,
gāra vārē aṅgāvara,
disatāyata asaṅkhya divē, athāṅgāta taraṅgaṇāṟyā bōṭīn̄chē,
pāra dūra kṣitijāvara,
gājēchyā gambhīra āvājāchyā sākṣīnē, āṇābhākā hōtāyata,
sātha dē'ū janmabhara
ugavūcha nayē sūrya udyāchā, vāṭatanya ithēca thāmbavāvī kāḷavēḷa,
asan̄cha basāvaṁ rātrabhara.

Rough English Translation (non-poetic)

You and I on a lonely seashore,
when the sun is sea-diving,
holding hands and your head on my shoulder,
when a cold breeze is blowing,
there on the horizon,
we see so many boats with their lights blinking,
we exchange vows, we shall no separate,
in the background, waves are heavy roaring
I wish the sun should never rise again,
and time should just stop when on the shore we are sitting…

  1. Adi, it has come straight from you heart and every word that you have weaved to stitch this beautiful fabric of thought. Every romantic person will relate this with passion and purpose. We all would love to seize those golden moments of life.

  2. Very beautifully written. I wish I could read the Marathi version too but it’s been a long long while since I have read Marathi. Though I am really happy to see blogs in regional languages too in this challenge.
