  • #AtoZChallange – The Journey

Shrill horn was blown on time and she moved, slowly. I felt the initial jerk as her engine pulled the connected wagons. Slowly she was picking up the pace and I started looking out from the window. I started the journey to my hometown after almost one year. It was nothing but struggle since I landed in this sleepless city of Mumbai. When you have to move to a different city, it’s gruesome to adjust if you have not a single familiar soul. Things go to a higher level if you are moving in against your wishes and plans are altered entirely.

It is hard to accept how the destiny can change everything in just a moment with its mighty force. Or should I say, Nature can turn things upside down in just one blow? The day was Lucky and Unlucky for me. Lucky, just because I am alive and breathing to tell you this story and Unlucky because I lost my everything. I lost my entire family, my home, my workplace everything turned into a heap of rubble with just one earth tremor. I lost many of my friends on that day or after some days when they had paid their share of pain and suffering.

I am alive just because I was on the ground playing cricket with my 5 friends. Everyone was happy, enjoying their Sunday and the next moment, it all shook and dust clouds and screams rose up in the air. It was not making any sense. A day or two passed in shock. All 5 of us huddled and was sitting in community hall amongst all other survivors. Everyone was lost in their own thoughts. It was an awkward silence. Staying in hometown was depressing. As soon as we came out of shock, we decided to shift to other towns. They all chose places where their relatives lived. Two of them have moved to Delhi, one is in Ahmedabad, and one in Chennai. But I took the different path.

I gathered what I could and took the first train to this city of dreams. I still get those horrifying dreams of the day. We have hardly talked with each other in last year, but since last week we have been talking about all the trauma of coping with loss, how we all are struggling to accept this truth. And then the plan came on the table about facing our demons at the same place where they were created. No doubt, the battle is going to be fierce but we can’t run away from it forever. In two days, the year will pass after that tragedy. And we all have started the journey, to the same destination. The journey to accept the reality and to move on.

    #AtoZChallange 2017 – Theme Reveal

Hello fellow bloggers and my lovely readers, this year I am participating in #AtoZChallenge. It’s about publishing posts daily based on the themes starting of containing English alphabets A to Z over the month of April, excluding Sundays. Before this challenge, I have never written anything having a deadline to complete and submit. As I am being a novice to this daily writing structure, this #AtoZChallenge is a tough job for me.

I have been writing something or the other for last 10 years. It all started with Marathi Poetry. I still remember the first ever piece I have written. It was the day of “Guru Purnima” when disciples give something as offering to their masters, teachers or guru.  I have never imagined that I could come up with something of this sort. Our college has organized a function to celebrate the day, and people are doing something or the other for the event.

Suddenly something struck in mind and I wrote a poem about the importance of Guru in person’s life composed in a very traditional meter of Marathi poetry called ‘ovi’. Since then I have picked up the habit of penning my emotions. From the poem, it went on to writing short stories, short articles about current affairs. Then started the journey on the road of blogging where we all meet and enjoy the wordy affairs.

We all live in the vibrant society. We always have a fresh stock for story ideas daily. It will be wrong to put such vibrant surrounding in a predefined mold. I am keeping myself out of any bounds of specific topic or genres, you might get a poem one day and another day will bring the story out of it. So guys, wish me luck as I am hoping to survive this challenge in my maiden voyage. See you all on the voyage, hope you all will enjoy the cruise with me.

  • Shogun: Race to be the Supreme…

Shogun: Race to be the Supreme…

I just finished the third book of 2017, and I know its long way to go and reach the goal of 100 books. James Clavell had done a great job of keeping me bound to his first novel of the Asian Saga “Shogun” and not picking up some smaller book. Shogun is set in Japan of 1600. It’s huge book to finish it in a week or so, At-least for me. But it took me on such an amazing historical journey of the feudal systems of Japan.

Shogun is the story of first British naval pilot Blackthorne, who is able to reach Japanese shores. It takes us on his journey of getting sucked up in the race for power in feudal lords; Daimyōs; of Japan. European conflict between Anglo-Dutch and Spaniards-Portuguese lobbies also keep influencing the storyline as the arrival of Blackthorne threatens the existing setups of Portuguese-Spanish establishments and their trade lines with Asia. The book is full of plot surprises as everybody knows politics and race for power are never straight forward businesses.

He had managed to weave the triangular conflict between Catholics, Protestants and Buddhists terrifically in the plot of the novel. Many times, characters face the dilemma about putting faith or liege lord at first place.

He manages to make us travel all the distances, across the country, by sea, by road, through mountains, makes us stay at the huge castle. As the story starts inching towards the climax, it’s almost abrupt ending. If we consider the whole excitement he had built up for the climax, it just drops you down from the cliff and our historical journey ends with a sudden halt.

I would give the rating of 3.5/5. He looses 1.5 just because of this abrupt climax but the book is really classic read. Please do read it. You can grab your copy from following

  • Together and happy

It ended up being a long Friday at work. Rakesh was frustrated as he missed his date with his wife. They have been looking eagerly forward to it and planning to make it perfect. He cursed the most important client call for this and left for home. He had not seen Kavita so disappointed even in their 7 years of togetherness. They both have been so busy with work lately. They were not able to find the time for each other. This date was the salvation of that longing and this long client call screwed it up entirely. He was feeling guilty after he listened to her feel so disappointed.

He was feeling guilty after he listened to her feel so disappointed.

He was fearing the empty look on her face. She was mature enough to understand that his call was an important one. Somehow, he managed to finish the call and get in the car. There was nothing fancy like candle light dinner or some pub night planned for the date today. It was his idea. He had planned to make it cool. They were going to head to the beach in the evening. Long walks on the sand were her favorite soul searching recipe. Sitting behind the wheel, he was lost in finding the way to break the void in her mind. The beep on his phone brought him back to reality.

“Get home soon, something is waiting for you.” His heart missed a beat. He knew that the sooner he gets over with this, the better it will be. ‘7 year’s of experience is really a good teacher’. He turned the ignition on and put his foot on the pedal. ‘Better don’t think about what are you going to get at home. Focus on the road’ Rohan from his minds-palace cautioned him. He drove home silently without his routine driving playlist.

He parked his car in the garage. He took the stairs to reach his floor. Keys in his hand froze in disbelief, the door was wide open. His living room was lit with dim lights from candles. He was ‘stunprised’ by Kavita’s gorgeous avatar in a black evening gown. Their favorite corner window was all set with cushions, coffee and copies of their favorite book for ‘buddy reading’. She had taken a step forward to their salvation of the lone times. He eased from the cease of surprise. He dropped his bag and keys and almost ran to her and pulled her into his arms. Their eyes met, lips smiled as they were genuinely happy.

  • 2017 a new start

Starting a new year is always tagged along with resolutions. Mostly they fail as you enter the second month. It takes a lot of determination to stick to the plan. I am no exception for this failing resolutions. Maximum I was able to carry on was for 25 books out of 100 books challenge. I think adjusting to whatever is unfolding is basic human instinct.

I know, I am late for this post. People do plan things about the upcoming year in December of the earlier year. It’s better late than never. This year I am planning for three things.

    A jar of happy things,

    ever eluding 100 books challenge

and, write 104 pieces for my blog… twice a week.

I just wish you all will enjoy this journey with me… and have fun-full 2017
