  • The Joy of Life

    No matter what your age is, one always seek out for joy. Even in a hell hole like notorious slums of Dharavi in Mumbai, or be it some gun running country in Africa. Today early morning, Medium digest gave me little insights of those Ethiopian kids who took this joy hunt one step further. With no roads, no paved areas around, they started to find their joy in skateboarding. Started with 7 skateboards and 25 boys, they now have grown their skateboarding club with a strong foundation, officially called as Ethiopia Skate.

    Indeed those kids have done a great job finding their bundle of joy in whatever they have with them instead of blaming their destiny. They made the most of the things around them and started living their dream, they turned abandoned buildings in their skating rings, started riding what they got; converting hurdles in the area in make-shift props to perform tricks.

    Isn’t that the same thing which we all crave for? Bit of joy in every day, a reason to laugh. But we just keep making excuses for not having something and never try to look in our backpack for small treasures of joy. Many times we even forget about the things which we own; things which used to make us happy in past. Routine for life makes us a slave to money and we simply lose touch with your skills and hobbies.

    I think its time to dig out some old brushes and colors to paint some pleasant strokes on a canvas or bring out an old camera to capture a few amazing moments. If you like music then just sit on a couch and play your old favorite track, lay back and enjoy the tune. Take a break and pamper yourself. Indulge in your favorite drink or a food which you can die for. These are the joys in simple things; real stress busters. I am very sure, everyone wants such simple stress busters of their own. So, find your own joy boosters. Have some fun!!!

    I had published this article on my Medium blog some years ago. September was busy in terms of this blogging journey. However, last 10 days of October was quite busy at work and other stuff as if I am losing the fun in small things. Today, I found about these Ethiopian kids again. They are an inspiration for me. I am sure that you will also find their love for skateboarding inspiring.

  • गणेशोत्सव: उत्सव उत्साहाचा आणि पर्यावरणपुराकतेचा

    जसजसा श्रावण संपू लागतो तसतसा मराठी मनात उत्साह वाढू लागतो, महाराष्ट्राचा अत्यंत लाडका उत्सव लगेचच सुरु होणार असतो. बाजारपेठा सजू लागतात, गावोगावी लगबग सुरु होते आणि गणरायाच्या स्वागताला महाराष्ट्र सज्ज होऊ लागतो. पण पुण्यात हा उत्साह अजूनच दांडगा असतो. पुण्यातल्या गणेशोत्सवाचे स्वरूप, त्याची भव्यता आणि लगबग काही औरच असते. ती अनुभवण्यासाठी तुम्हाला पुण्यातच यायला हवं. सार्वजनिक गणेशोत्सवाचा उत्साह फार दांडगा असतोच पण घरगुती वातावरणातही अतिशय मन लावून गणरायाची आराधना या काळात पुण्यात होते. तशी या पुण्यातील घरगुती उत्सवाला परंपरा पेशव्यांपासून आहे. पेशवे त्यांच्या खाजगी कौटुंबिक गणरायाच उत्सव मोठ्या धुमधडाक्यात साजरा करीत असत.

    पण भाऊ रंगारी यांनी पुण्यात १२५ वर्षांपूर्वी या उत्सवाला सार्वजनिक स्वरूप दिले आणि १८९२ साली पुण्यात पहिला सार्वजनिक गणेशोत्सव साजरा झाला. लोकमान्य टिळकांनी पुढे १८९४ पासून याचे स्वरूप -आणिकच व्यापक केले आणि पुढे सारा महाराष्ट्र ह्या परंपरेत सहभागी झाला. आज पुण्यातलं या उस्तावाचे स्वरूप अगदी भव्य दिव्य आहे. पण याच भव्यतेमध्ये पर्यावरणाचा समतोल राखण्यासाठीही प्रयत्नशील असलेल्या पुणेकरांना २०१७ पासून व्होडाफोन इको-पाँड या आपल्या उपक्रमातून हातभार लावत आहेत. पुण्याच्या सार्वजनिक गणेशोत्सव परंपरेत, शंभर वर्षांहून जुन्या कसबापेठ, तांबडी जोगेश्वरी, गुरुजी तालिम, तुळशीबाग व केसरीवाडा या ५ गणरायांना आजही मानाचे स्थान आहे.

    पुण्यात घरगुती उत्सवात दीड दिवस, ५ दिवस किंवा गौरीबरोबर गणरायाचे विसर्जन करण्याचीही परंपरा आहे. पण त्याच बरोबर अनंतचतुर्दशीला होणारे विसर्जन देखील कित्येक कुटुंबांत परंपरेने चालत आले आहे. कित्येक सोसायट्यांमध्ये देखील हा उत्सव साजरा केला जातो. विविध वयोगटातील रहिवाश्यांसाठी वेगवेगळ्या स्पर्धा, मनोरंजनाचे कार्यक्रम केले जाता. दहा दिवस अत्यंत उत्साहाचे वातावरण असते. आणि क्षण येतो तो बाप्पांना निरोप देण्याचा. गेल्या काही वर्षात आपल्या सवयींमुळे आपण पर्यावरण पुराकतेकडून पर्यावरण ह्रासाकडे वाटचाल करतो आहोत. सुदैवाने आता महाराष्ट्रात थर्माकोलवर बंदी असल्याने हा एक अपायकारक वापर कमी झाला आहे. पण प्लास्टर ऑफ पॅरिसच्या मूर्तींचे नदीत, विहिरीत व इतर पाणवठ्यांवर होणारे विसर्जन चिंताजनक आहे. यावर उपाय म्हणून व्होडाफोन आयडिया कंपनी, पुणे महानगरपालिका आणि राष्ट्रीय रासायनिक प्रयोगशाळेच्या सहयोगाने “व्होडाफोन इको-पाँड” ही योजना सलग दुसऱ्या वर्षीही राबवते आहे.

    २०१७ साली याच योजनेअंतर्गत “व्होडाफोन इको-पाँड” मध्ये विसर्जित केलेल्या ३१०० मूर्तींपासून १३ टन प्लास्टर ऑफ पॅरिसवर पुनर्प्रक्रिया केली आणि एक लाख लिटर इतके खत निर्माण केले. हे खत महाराष्ट्रातील शेतकऱ्यांना वाटण्यात आले. याही वर्षी पुणे शहरात ७ ठिकाणी हे पुणे शहरात एनआयबीएम, वाकडेवाडी, औंध, खराडी, बाणेर, कल्याणीनगर व चिंचवड लिंक रस्ता येथील व्होडाफोन दुकानांपाशी हे “व्होडाफोन इको-पाँड” उभारले आहेत. यामध्ये आपल्या घरगुती गणरायाचे विसर्जन पारंपारिक पद्धतीत साजरे करता येईल आणि शिवाय यातून पर्यावरणाला अजिबात धोका निर्माण होणार नाही. या ७ “व्होडाफोन इको-पाँड” शिवाय ४ फिरते इको-पाँड देखील वेगवेगळ्या गृहनिर्माण सोसायट्यांच्या आवारात नागरिकांसाठी उपलब्ध करून देण्यात आले आहेत. हे “व्होडाफोन इको-पाँड” नक्की कोठे आहेत ते तुम्हाला या सोबतच्या नकाशावर कळेलच पण अजूनही काही शंका असेल तर तुम्हाला ७३९१०००००० या क्रमांकावर फोन करून अधिक माहिती मिळवता येईल.

    तेव्हा या वर्षी गेल्यावर्षीपेक्षा जास्त प्रमाणात या “व्होडाफोन इको-पाँड”मध्ये आपल्या घरच्या गणरायाचे विसर्जन करून आपण पुणेकर पर्यावरणाला हातभार लावूया. शिवाय निर्माल्याचेही उत्तम दर्जाचे कंपोस्ट खत होऊ शकते. त्याही मार्गाचा अवलंब करून पुन्हा निसर्गाने दिलेलं त्याला परत करण्यात काहीच गैर नाही. पुणेकरांनी १२५ वर्षापूर्वी जशी एक परंपरा महाराष्ट्राला दिली तशीच आणखीन एक काळाची गरज असलेली हि पर्यावरणपूरक परंपरा महाराष्ट्राला देण्याची संधी पुण्याला आहे. पुणेकरांनी ती आजीबात सोडू नये आणि अर्थातच विसर्जन करतांना म्हणयला विसरू नका… “गणपती बाप्पा मोरया, पुढच्या वर्षी लवकर या.”

    नायकाची बाजी

    रहस्यकथा, हा माझा फार आवडता साहित्यप्रकार आहे. गेले पंधरा दिवस मी ख्रितोफर डॉयल च्या कादंबऱ्या वाचतो आहे. त्या वाचतांना एकदम नायकाचा प्रवास ठळकपणे डोळ्यासमोर येऊ लागला. काही कल्पना नसताना या कथेतला नायक एका भयंकर जागतिक कटाचा भाग बनतो आणि पुढे ज्या ज्या चित्तथरारक घटनांमधून गोष्ट पुढे उलगडत जाते. पण नायक म्हटलं की तो एकटा दुकटा थोडाच या पडणार आहे? त्याची तीन चार मित्रमंडळी त्याच्या कंपूत सामील होतात आणि सारे मिळून समोर उभ्या राहिलेल्या प्रसंगांना तोंड द्यायला सज्ज होतात. कित्येक प्रसंगात आपल्या जिवाची बाजी लावून तो संकटांवर मात करतो. कंपूतील प्रत्येकाची असलेली आपापली खासियत आणीबाणीच्या काळात कामाला येऊ लागते. लहानपणी या कंपू प्रकारची ओळख करून दिली ती आपल्या लाडक्या भा रा भागवतांच्या फास्टर फेणेनी. त्याची ती छोटीशी टोळी जाम धमाल करायची.

    पण एक आहे, या साऱ्या नायकांवर आधारित गोष्टींमधून नुसती गोष्ट पुढे जात नाही तर नायकाचा सुद्धा एक प्रकारचा प्रवास सुरु असतो. बहुतेकवेळा काहीशा योगायोगाने या साऱ्या घटनांमध्ये ओढला गेलेला नायक पुढे या थरारक घटनांमध्ये हिरीरीने भाग घेऊ लागतो. पहिल्यांदा कुठून या लफड्यात पडलो असा विचार त्याच्या मनात येतच नाही अशातला भाग नाही, पण पुढे जाऊन त्याचा आत्मविश्वास वाढतो, बरोबरच्या लोकांची साथ मिळत जाते. कधी कधी काही अप्रिय घटनांमध्ये बरोबरच्या सोबत्यांशी ताटातूट होते किंवा त्यांच्यावर काळाची झडप पडते. पण नायक हे सारे धक्के पचवत पचवत पुढे वाटचाल करतच असतो. आव्हानांसमोर सर्वस्वाची बाजी लावत त्यांच्यावर मात करून बाहेर पडलेला विजयी वीर असा नायक आपल्या सर्वांनाच हवाहवासा वाटतो. पण क्वचित एखादा छोटासा धक्का देत लेखक आपल्याला एखाद्या दुःखांताकडे सुद्धा कधी कधी घेऊन जातो. आर्थर कॉनोन डोईल चा शेरलॉक असाच एक दुःखांत होता, ज्यात त्याच्या पक्क्या वैऱ्यासोबत दोन हात करता करता दोघांना मरण येतं. पण वाचकांच्या प्रेमापोटी त्याला शेरलॉकला पुन्हा एकदा मृत्याच्या दाढेतून ओढून आणावे लागले होते.

    ख्रितोफर डॉयलचा नायक काय किंवा आपला फाफे काय, तो आणि त्याचा कंपू, त्यांचा अचानकच सुरू झालेला हा साहसी प्रवास आणि जीवाची बाजी लावून संकटातून बाहेर पडण्याची जिद्द हे सगळे विचार मनात घोळत होते तोच झी मराठीवर बाजी ही नवीन मालिका येते आहे अशी जाहिरात बघितली. जाहिरातीची युक्ती तर एकदम नामी होती. ऍनिमेशन वापरून बनवलेला ट्रेलर एकदम वेगळाच होता, एखाद्या मालिकेसाठी कधी वापरला गेला नव्हता. महाराष्ट्राचं लाडकं ऐतिहासिक सत्ताकेंद्र पुणे पुन्हा एकदा संकटाच्या छायेत दिसत होतं. शेरा आपलं कपटी जाळं पुण्याभोवती विणत होता. आणि त्या संकटाचा सामना करायला उभा ठाकला होता एक वीर शिलेदार, आपला नायक. जीवाची बाजी लावणारा ‘बाजी’.

     

    आता नायक म्हटला की अर्थातच तो एकटा असणं जरा अवघडच आहे. डॉयलचा नायक ३-४ लोकांचा कंपू घेऊन सगळ्या सहासात उडी घेतो, फाफे त्याचा मित्र सुभाष देसाई आणि मामेबहीण मालू बरोबर बाजी लावतो. तसाच आपला बाजी एकटा दुकटा आला तर कदाचित फाउल झाला असता. तर बाजी, एका लावण्यवती हिराच्या जोडीने येणाऱ्या संकटाचा सामना करायला उभा ठाकला असावा असा किमान ट्रेलर वरून तरी अंदाज येतोय. खेळाचा पट मांडला गेला आहे, दान पडायला सुरुवात झाली आहे. शेराने आपला पूर्ण कपटीपणा बाजीवर लावत चाल केली आहे. आता बाजी अन हिरा कशाची बाजी लावून या संकटाचा सामना करतात हे पाहण्याची उत्सुकता ट्रेलरवरून नक्कीच जागी झाली आहे. शेराशी सामना करतांना बाजी आणि हिरा यांचा प्रवास कोणत्या दिशेने जातो आह हे पाहणेही नक्कीच रोमांचक ठरेल. त्यामुळे झी मराठी च्या प्रेक्षकांनी नक्कीच एका चित्तथरारक कथानकासाठी तयार व्हायला हरकत नाही.

    Alexa 2018 kick offGuys, September is around the corner, and it’s time for “My Friend Alexa”. For those who have no clue who this Alexa is, let me introduce you to Alexa, it is one awesome ranking algorithm which helps you to rank your website based on the traffic and the source and nature of that traffic. There are few more parameters like a source of that traffic, bounce rate, etc. “Google baba” is numero uno. So, closer you get to 1, better is your website rank. It’s that time of the year when everyone in the Blogchatter community starts looking up for the Alexa rankings of our blogs. This year will be my second year to be a part of this campaign with our fantastic and enthusiastic folks of Blogchatter.

    Last year’s campaign was a success for me. I had no clue what this Alexa ranking is before this campaign. In Blogchatter’s My Friend Alexa, reading and engaging with your fellow blogger’s work takes the upper edge to you creating and posting your content. As against the April A to Z, where you post a daily content, My Friend Alexa is very less demanding on the creative side. Here you need to post only twice a week. Just 8 posts in a month. So last year I started up with an Alexa rank of around 7.5M. Thanks to lovely folks of Blogchatter, I was able to drop it by almost 3 to 3.5M and with the consistent uploads and love you all readers, my rank kept on improving till the end of this years ‘April A to Z’. As soon as that dredging challenge got over, I reached the bottom of my creative juices. I managed to create only 8-10 pieces in this period which I was saving up for this Alexa campaign.

    I checked my rank last week and I was struck with horrifying shock. I had lost my rank. My blog has so less traffic as I was inactive from my side, Alexa couldn’t even rank me at all. Today, it’s ranging in some 19M, thanks to you guys as you showed the same enthusiasm to my latest post even after such a long gap. This year, I would like to take you on the tour showing beauty and sweetness of Marathi language through my poetry and prose. Wait, wait, wait… Non-Marathi fellows don’t leave yaar. I will add the translation and the meaning of my work just for you guys. To make things more exciting and special for you, I have something special on my mind so that you can enjoy the Marathi language more. But let’s keep it a surprise for now. Wait and watch guys, wait and watch. See you soon!

    पाऊसप्रिये,
    या वर्षीचा पाऊस इथे चांगलाच भिजवतोय पण तुझं पत्र काही आलं नाही, पाऊस तुझ्याकडे हजेरी लावायचा विसरला तर नाही ना!
    तुझ्या घरी नसेल पडला पाऊस तर, वेलबुट्टीच्या नक्षीदार डबीत भरावा आणि तुझ्याकडे पोहोचवावा म्हणतो. बरं पाऊस नाही तर नाही, किमान पावसाआधी आसमंतात दरवळणारा वाऱ्याबरोबर आलेला मातीचा गार सुवास? तो ही नाही? थांब, एका कुपीत भरून पाठवतो, कानामागे अडकव त्याचा फाया.
    पण वर्दी देणारे ढग तरी पोचलेत न? नसतील आले ढग दाटून तर तातडीचे खलिते धाडून पाठवून देण्यात येतील. काय म्हणतेस? पण इतका सारा अट्टहास कशासाठी? सृष्टीचा सर्जनसोहळा एकत्र अनुभवण्यासाठी….
