It’s a grey area…

It’s true when you say it’s not always a black and white when it comes to a life. It’s true for every relationship too. May it be a friendship, or a companionship, or romantic relationship in general. I tried penning it in a Marathi free verse. I would also try to give English translation for the same.

It’s all a grey area,
covering everything between us.

We don’t recognize a duality,
Black -n- White or No -n- Yes

Everything is blur and fuzzy,
Like fizzing faraway clouds

Please feel free to comment and let me know if I have managed to convey my emotions about grey area through this free verse and it’s translation. English poetry is a new adventure for me. I have just ventured into it and am aware that there’s a long long way to go.

Your poem made me stare at my own grey areas, wondering what I’ve been glossing over.

Aditya ,You are equally proficient in expressing your thoughts as well in Marathi as English. But tell me this , did you pen this while looking at a grey monsoon sky from your balcony?

Movies and books usually thrive on black and white characters, whereas most of us in this day and age have a grey shade as well. Your translation was good as I could grasp the essence of the poem.

This is a good start, Adi. You will get there soon.

Loved that analogy. You’ve delved into all the murky complexities without easy answers or simplifications and yet made it seem beautiful. Keep writing poetry like this

It took me decades to figure this out. There are no rights and wrongs, just shades. Nothing that is yes or no, just another in between. Life’s very difficult to define and classify.

I loved this, from the poetry of ambiguity to the deeply human moments that don’t fit neat labels. It’s like peeling an onion made of muted colours: vulnerable, thoughtful, and utterly relatable for anyone straddling the space between certainty and confusion.

You’ve conveyed the emotions beautifully, Aditya. The Marathi verse feels deep and the English translation captures the same essence really well. Loved the imagery of “faraway clouds”, it perfectly describes the grey areas in relationships.

Such a thought-provoking reminder to reflect on the shades between rights and wrongs!

True; nothing in life can be segregated as black/white completely. There’s always a grey area, sometimes left unsaid and unexplored and maybe misunderstood too. Good one. Wish I could understand Marathi. I always prefer to read the original.

That’s quite profound, Adi. I read it slow, savouring each word you wrote.

That’s a beautiful poem that made me pause and refkect on the lines. It’s true, nothing remains black or white but falls in grey area!

Loved the analogy.. the grey area and fuzzy clouds perfectly capture how messy and unclear relationships can be. Simple, but so true. Thanks for putting it into words.

The translation is correct but the feelings somehow got lost. Marathit manatl je baher yet te English madhe vyakt hot nahi.

Your free verse beautifully captures the ambiguity of life’s emotions. It reminded me that not all feelings fit neatly into boxes—some are meant to be felt, not defined
